Panera Bread Gluten Free Menu 2016

panera-gluten-free

On a sunny evening during the first hot week of May in Michigan, I entered Panera hoping to find a refreshing dinner. Known for their bagels, pastries, and sandwiches, this doesn’t seem like the wisest first choice for a gluten-free customer, but it was close to my kids’ golf lessons and I was sure there had to be something I could eat. After all, I know they have salads, and their seasonal Autumn Squash soup is one of my favorites.

As I stood in line looking over the menu, I realized they really did not have as much to offer that is gluten-free as I had hoped. I realized it was definitely not going to be a family-friendly place for us as two of our kids have to eat gluten-free and that only one out of the seven items on the kids menu did not contain gluten. That option is a side salad, which I would love to say my two young boys would enjoy, but the odds are not in my favor on that one.

When it was my turn to order, I asked the woman behind the counter if they had a gluten-free menu, or if she could answer some of my questions regarding ingredients, and she became flustered and nervous. She told me they didn’t have a gluten-free menu and hesitantly pointed to the salad options. When I asked her about the Strawberry Poppyseed & Chicken Salad, she said she would call a manager over. The manager asked if I was Celiac or just had a gluten sensitivity. When I told her it’s a sensitivity and I react to gluten, she seemed relieve and told me the Strawberry Poppyseed & Chicken would be fine, but she did warn me about there always being a risk of cross-contamination. I was thankful she mentioned it, and took note that someone with Celiac should probably just steer clear of Panera.

I ordered the full salad, thinking I would take what I couldn’t finish home for lunch the next day. That didn’t happen. Before I knew it, I had eaten the entire thing. It was delicious. I could even see my kids eating it, with it being loaded with some of their favorite fruits like strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, mandarin oranges. The seasoning on the chicken was perfect. The poppyseed dressing was light and summery.

I ordered a smoothie to go thinking it would be a great treat. Looking over their choices, I decided on the Superfruit Smoothie. Sadly, I was disappointed in the taste. I took it home to my husband, who loves just about any kind of food, especially if it contains fruit. I was surprised to find that even he didn’t really enjoy it. We both thought it tasted like a watered down version of a smoothie that was heavier on the yogurt than fruit. He did say that he is a fan of the Green Passion Smoothie, so I can’t say all their smoothies aren’t worth a try.

My overall thoughts on Panera Bread Gluten Free Menu: If you are looking for a meal that is more than a salad, or a couple soup options, you’re not going to want to stop here. They don’t have gluten-free bread options so don’t go in looking for them. Afterward, I decided to look around online a bit and found that Panera does actually have a gluten-free menu on their website. It would be wise for the stores to print this out and have it on hand for customers who have gluten-free questions. As for my meal, I really enjoyed my salad and would definitely go back for it again. It was satisfying yet light so that I didn’t feel as if I was sluggish afterward.

Panera Bread – Gluten Free Menu

With a word like ‘bread’, right in the name, what are the chances you’ll find a good gluten free meal here? You have some awesome salad choices (hold the croutons) and, if you’re hip to the “Hidden Menu” your chances are great!

Panera Bread - Gluten Free on the Town

Being a predominately sandwich shop, there happens to be a large risk of cross contamination at Panera Bread. So just watch out for that and be sure to let your server/cashier know that you are gluten free and have an allergy

From there, they should know what precautions they need to take to avoid cross contamination.

In terms of the Panera gluten free menu, you have quite a few choices, especially for salads. Just make sure to specify no croutons.

Overall, the Panera Bread gluten free menu is actually pretty good in terms of selections as well as food quality.

Tender Greens Gluten Free Menu

The Tender Greens gluten free menu really just is their menu because most of their food is naturally gluten free. If you haven’t been to Tender Greens before, it is a great healthy casual food spot set in a relaxed environment. You look at the menu, pick what you want, and then walk down a cafeteria style line to pay and get your food. They mostly serve salads and proteins with side dishes. Tender Greens has locations across California and is perfect for healthy eaters.

Tender Greens Gluten Free Menu - Salt & Pepper Chicken w/ Simple Kale Salad

Here is what is on the Tender Greens Gluten Free Menu:

  • All Salad Dressings except for the Sesame Dressing
  • All Salads (be sure to check ingredient lists for the obvious gluten items)
  • All Hot Plates (Note: The one I am not sure about is the Chipotle BBQ Chicken. They say it has no allergens but BBQ sauce can sometimes have gluten in it so proceed with caution)

Note: All Sandwiches and Soups are NOT gluten free.Tender Greens Gluten Free Cookie

Another very important thing I would like to note about eating at Tender Greens is bread. They serve a piece of bread with their salads. I don’t know why they do this because this place would seriously be an A+++++ in my book if they didn’t do this. Instead their rating goes down in my book for this practice. I have asked for my salad to come without bread only to see it smothering my lettuce and contaminating my salad. Not good. So make sure you are very clear about your needs for a gluten free dish when ordering. If you are celiac, please proceed with caution as I am unclear on their practices of cooking items in the same areas as the bread as they do not have a separate menu noting their gluten free items.

I also noticed Tender Greens now has gluten free cookies for display in their dessert section. This could be a good option for those with a sweet tooth but again – can’t speak to the cleanliness of their kitchen practices.

What about you? How has your experience with the Tender Greens Gluten Free menu been?

Lemonade Restaurant Gluten Free Menu

Lemonade Restaurant Gluten Free Menu

Lemonade has tons of great gluten free options. If you haven’t been to Lemonade before, they call themselves a “new school cafeteria” because you walk in and they have all their selections out and you slide down the options like you’re in a cafeteria. They also have a really handy key code for all the different allergens. When I used to work in Beverly Hills I went to this place all the time. It’s wonderful!

This is what their website has to say about Lemonade:

Lemonade caters to people looking for a quick lunch or a healthy “grab and go” dinner for the family. The cafés have an emphasis on convenience and affordability, while serving the same fresh, high-quality, and innovative modern cuisine that the brand has become known for.”

Lemonade has a handy little symbol that tells you which items are gluten free. Here are some of my favorite gluten free options from Lemonade:

  • Kale, mushrooms, kumquat vinaigretteLemonade Gluten Free Menu
  • Avocado, cherry tomato, pine nuts, lime
  • New Mexican chili roasted butternut squash, white corn
  • Tandoori chicken, jalapeno, green mango, coconut, tamarind
  • Cauliflower, golden raisins, almonds, curry

Lemonade Restaurants are sprouting up all over LA and are currently in the following locations:

I love Lemonade Restaurants because I always feel so light and healthy after I eat there, not bogged down and gross. If you haven’t tried it, go there today and get in on all their great gluten free options.

Fresh Brothers Gluten Free Pizza

Fresh Brothers Gluten Free Pizza

Fresh Brothers makes a killer gluten-free pizza. I eat pretty healthy, but like everyone I have my vices. One of them is Fresh Brothers Gluten Free pizza. I’m Italian, and I love pizza. So obviously going gluten-free was a big bummer in that department. From time to time I crave a piece of pizza and thankfully there are places here in LA that make a great gluten-free pizza. Fresh Brothers Pizza gluten free pizza is by far the best gluten-free pizza I’ve tried and they are located right here in Manhattan Beach where I live. Win!

Gluten-Free Restaurant Guide: Fresh Brothers

A typical cheat meal in our house: Fresh Brothers Gluten-Free Pizza and Chopped Veggie Salad

I heard Fresh Brothers had a gluten-free pizza but I didn’t know enough about it to seek it out. One day my pizza craving came on strong and we looked into getting delivery. Fresh Brothers has an iphone app and you can order your pizza directly through the app. And if you use the code “FRESHFAN” you get 10% off your entire order. This is a pretty good thing for a web geek like myself.

According to my husband, the gluten-free pizza definitely tastes like it is gluten-free. But it’s still good enough where we will split a medium gluten-free pizza and he won’t feel the need to get his own pizza filled with gluten gooey bread goodness. What a sweet guy!

Our typical dinner meal we order for delivery from Fresh Brothers is a medium gluten-free pizza with turkey sausage and peperoncini. It is yummy and looks like this:

Fresh Brothers Gluten Free Pizza

We also try and keep this cheat meal somewhat healthy by ordering a vegetable chopped garden salad with our order. They will chop up any salad you order and it is GOOD:

Fresh Brothers Chopped Vegetable Salad

We get our salads chopped with olive oil on the side. So good. And the price is pretty reasonable and they deliver. We don’t order out much but when we are feeling like a pizza, Fresh Brothers is not just an option for us. It is THE option.

I don’t think Fresh Brothers is nationwide yet but they do have locations all over Southern California. They have an entire gluten free menu and they also serve gluten-free buffalo wings and boneless bites. I haven’t tried them yet but when I do I will post an update with this information.

I am so happy Fresh Brothers has a gluten free pizza that tastes good and satisfies my pizza craving. Thank you, Fresh Brothers, for being so awesome!
