Seasons 52 Gluten Free Menu

Seasons 52 Gluten Free Menu - Scallops

Seasons 52 is a national restaurant whose seasonal menu changes weekly (hence the 52, get it?) Another thing they are known for is that everything on their menu is under 475 calories. Yippee! The restaurants all have a local flavor making this a great place for a work meeting or a place for a special celebration.

Because Seasons 52 is health conscious with their calorie count, it seems only natural for the Seasons 52 Gluten Free Menu to be full of good choices. They have a special menu called ‘Gluten Sensitive Menu’ and they want to be clear with diners that while they offer gluten free dishes, they are not a gluten free kitchen facility.

I have been to the Seasons 52 Santa Monica location now several times both for lunch and dinner and feel good about giving it a solid gluten free menu review. Here’s a look at their menu.

Seasons 52 Gluten Free Menu

This is what was available at the time I went:

Seasons 52 Gluten Free Menu

  • Summer Corn Soup – request without breadsticks
  • Roasted Tomato Soup – request without cheese straw
  • Edamame
  • Tuna & Avocado Sushi Roll
  • Oak-Grilled Marine Lobster Tail
  • Warm Roasted Olives

  • Tomato & Hass Avocado – request without grilled bruschetta
  • Organic Field Greens
  • Organic Baby Spinach
  • Kalmnos Greek
  • Sesame Grilled Salmon

  • Oak-Grilled Beef, Chicken Breast, or Market Fish – request plain with salt & pepper
  • Grilled Boneless Rainbow Trout
  • Carmelized Grilled Sea Scallops – request no risottos
  • Cedar Plank Atlantic Salmon
  • Wood-Roasted Pork Tenderloin (request withouth onion sauce and seasoning)

  • Blackened Fish tacos – request lettuce cups in place of tortillas. request without mole sauce and without sour cream.

  • Roasted Baby Carrots
  • Crushed Potatoes
  • Broccolini
  • Cremini Mushrooms
  • Steamed Leaf Spinach

I ordered the scallops with a side of steamed leaf spinach instead of the risotto. It was delicious, and probably more healthy too!

Overall I was very impressed with the Seasons 52 Gluten Free Menu offering. Because they are not a dedicated gluten free facility, they have done their homework and have all the proper warnings up and in place.

If you are gluten sensitive, I would give Seasons 52 my vote of confidence for your gluten free dining experience.

Corner Bakery Gluten Free Menu

Corner Bakery is a tricky one for us gluten-free folks. So what is so tricky about the Corner Bakery Gluten Free Menu? Well, they don’t really have one.

When I went to order at Corner Bakery I asked if I could see their gluten free menu. This is what they handed to me:

The menu is from 2010 and it’s 2014. I hope they update it soon. having that said, here is what they have that is gluten free:

Corner Bakery Gluten Free Menu

Corner Bakery Gluten Free Menu -

  • Bacon
  • Fruit Medley Salad
  • Breakfast Potatoes
  • All American Scrambler with Egg Whites – No Toast
  • Anaheim Scrambler with Egg Whites – No Toast
  • Farmers Scrambler w Egg Whites – No Toast
  • Oatmeal without Sweet Crisp – Any toppings are good
  • Swiss Oatmeal without Sweet Crisp

  • Three Lentil Vegetable
  • Chicken Tortilla

Lunch / Dinner:

  • Chopped Salad
  • Santa Fe Ranch Salad
  • Mixed Greens Salad
  • Tuna Salad
  • Greek Vegetable Salad
  • DC Chicken Salad
  • Ceasar Salad – no croutons
  • Roasted Potato Salad
  • Chips
  • Carrots
  • Pickles

I ordered a cup of the chicken tortilla soup and a chopped salad. Both were good. The one thing I will note is that everything at Corner Bakery comes with a side of bread. I specifically ordered no bread, but I received a piece of bread on top of my salad when it arrived. Make sure you are extremely explicit about this when ordering.

Because Corner Bakery is a bakery with lots of baked goods, there is a high risk for cross contamination here. The location I went to even had staff that admitted this. So, if you are celiac or someone with extreme gluten sensitivity you might want to think twice before eating here.

The other thing about the menu I was unclear on is why the eggs aren’t gluten free but egg whites are. They may use flour in their batter to make the eggs fluffier. I have yet to confirm this. If you are reading this and know, please post in the comments.

Overall, Corner Bakery is not the easiest place to find gluten-free foods but they still have a gluten free menu you can look at and you should be able to grab a salad or soup or egg white dish that will be a good choice.

Hugo’s Gluten Free Menu

One of my favorite things about Hugo’s, aside from their seriously tasty food, is the very clearly marked menu. They offer up some delicious vegan, vegetarian, and of course, gluten free options. They also clearly listed items that CAN be made gluten free. Always a great thing.

Hugo's - Gluten Free on the Town

Hugo’s proudly boasts, “We have eliminated gluten from our cooking, except for obvious wheat-based products (bread, tortillas, and some pancakes & pastries), by substituting rice or potato flour, Tamari Soy Sauce, and Bragg Liquid Aminos”

Unlike many restaurants where the question is, “what few things are safe for me to eat?” at Hugo’s, those of us seeking gluten free choices will find many, many options!

From the breakfast menu, awesome choices like Chilaquiles, Go Green Frittata, Eggs Blackstone, Green Tamales & Eggs, Almond Energy Pancakes and Blueberry Pancakes are among your gluten free choices. By my count you have 19 gluten free choices all together, and 4 more that can be made gluten free upon request.

Off the starter menu, every item, with the exception of a bread basket is either gluten free, or can be made gluten free. Gingseng Chicken Soup,  Asian Spring Rolls, Nachos, and even Mac and Cheese (gluten free by request) are fantastic gluten free choices.

Every salad, with the exception of the Caesar, which can be made gluten free is listed as gluten free. How great to not have to wonder if a seemingly safe salad will be loaded with croutons or flour tortilla strips!

On a 9 item sandwich menu you have 4 choices that can be made gluten free, such as the Cuban Sandwich, or Club Sandwich, and one that is gluten free – Kale Tacos wrapped in GMO-free corn tortillas.

10 pasta dishes on the menu – and surprise! Every one of them is available gluten free on request.  Hugo’s offers a 100% organic red lentil gluten free pasta. Mac and Cheese, Carbonara, and many more await you.

The main entree menu only has one item on it that is not, and can not be made gluten free. Choose from things like Turkey Meatloaf, Hugo’s Shepard’s Pie, Mushroom Marsala Chicken, or the Green Tamale Plate. The create-a-plate option is totally vegan, and gluten free.

Got a gluten free kid? You’re in luck!  Hugo’s even has a gluten free kid’s menu, offering 4 items that either are, or can be made gluten free.

And to finish it all off – dessert! Yup, even a selection of gluten free desserts to satisfy that sweet tooth. Brownie Tort, Pumpkin Pie, and Maple Pecan Cheesecake are just a few of the many decadent sounding options.

Hugo’s is a place that I feel good about eating, they take pride in their menu, and their ingredients -

Hugo’s exclusively uses:
• Organic coffee, tea, herbal infusions, grains, beans, ketchup, mustard, sugar, soy milk, rice milk and tofu.
• Vegan pasta made here with organic semolina and flax seed.
• Organic free-range eggs grown locally.
• Hormone and antibiotic-free steaks and hamburgers, from pasture-grazed cattle.
• California fresh chicken.
• Zero trans-fats for deep frying.
• Seafood from sustainable sources, harvested in a manner that does not harm the environment. We proudly
follow the guidelines of the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program.
• Filtered water for drinking, all beverages, ice and cooking. We have bottled water available; however we
encourage you to take advantage of our free filtered and sparkling water. Recent reports on bottled water
have indicated that transporting bottles and bottle waste negatively affect the environment.

Hugo’s has 3 locations – Studio City, Agoura Hills, and West Hollywood

The Counter Gluten Free Menu

The Counter Gluten Free Menu

The Counter Gluten Free Menu

The Counter has restaurants all over Los Angeles and nationwide and internationally now.If you are gluten free and eating at The Counter you are in luck because there are a great source of gluten free options for you at The Counter. They also recently introduced a gluten free menu to make it even easier!

My go-to gluten free meal at The Counter is as follows:

  • Make Your Own Burger (Regular or Turkey)
  • In a Bowl on a bed of spinach ($1.00 extra)
  • Jalapenos, Red Peppers, Egg, and Carrot Shavings
  • Avocado (Extra)
  • Dijon Balsamic Dressing (On The Side)

I also occasionally get the Sweet Potato fries as a starter which are yummy and gluten-free.

If you are in the mood for an alcoholic beverage, The Counter has Wyder’s Pear Cider and most of their wines are gluten-free (as stated on their menu). [Read more...]

Soup Bar El Segundo Gluten Free Menu

The Soup Bar El Segundo Gluten Free Menu

The Soup Bar in El Segundo is full of great gluten free options. It doesn’t ever really get that cold in LA, but when it is raining or cold you can count on The Soup Bar to be packed with a line out the door during lunch time. The Soup Bar has a great gluten free menu. They serve several different soups daily and they are all clearly marked for allergens. The ones that are gluten free are marked. They let you sample all the soups and if you like more than one, you can get a soup flight which is three soups for about $7.99. Not too bad. The soups sometimes come with garnish, so make sure you tell them you are gluten free when you order. The Soup Bar also carries delicious gluten free cookies from The Good Cookie. They are out of this world. If you have a sweet tooth, they are definitely worth taking a look at.

The Soup Bar Gluten Free The gluten free soups at The Soup Bar that I like are the turkey chili (very filling and hearty), carrot ginger, tomato basil bisque, and split pea. They also have salads but I haven’t tried them. I am sure you can make any of them gluten free.

If you want something to warm you up on a rainy day, feeling sick, or just in the mood for a good bowl of soup and don’t feel like making it yourself – try The Soup Bar in El Segundo. They are very gluten free friendly and the soups are delicious!

Lemonade Restaurant Gluten Free Menu

Lemonade Restaurant Gluten Free Menu

Lemonade has tons of great gluten free options. If you haven’t been to Lemonade before, they call themselves a “new school cafeteria” because you walk in and they have all their selections out and you slide down the options like you’re in a cafeteria. They also have a really handy key code for all the different allergens. When I used to work in Beverly Hills I went to this place all the time. It’s wonderful!

This is what their website has to say about Lemonade:

Lemonade caters to people looking for a quick lunch or a healthy “grab and go” dinner for the family. The cafés have an emphasis on convenience and affordability, while serving the same fresh, high-quality, and innovative modern cuisine that the brand has become known for.”

Lemonade has a handy little symbol that tells you which items are gluten free. Here are some of my favorite gluten free options from Lemonade:

  • Kale, mushrooms, kumquat vinaigretteLemonade Gluten Free Menu
  • Avocado, cherry tomato, pine nuts, lime
  • New Mexican chili roasted butternut squash, white corn
  • Tandoori chicken, jalapeno, green mango, coconut, tamarind
  • Cauliflower, golden raisins, almonds, curry

Lemonade Restaurants are sprouting up all over LA and are currently in the following locations:

I love Lemonade Restaurants because I always feel so light and healthy after I eat there, not bogged down and gross. If you haven’t tried it, go there today and get in on all their great gluten free options.

Fishbar Gluten Free Menu

The Fishbar Gluten Free menu is fully of great tasting options. Fishbar is one of the best restaurants for seafood in the South Bay in Manhattan Beach. It’s located in the old Sharky’s location but don’t be fooled – they’ve turned it into an epic restaurant with great lunch, dinner, after hours, and even brunch options! There are a lot of items on their menu that are naturally gluten free (Oysters, anyone?) but there are also a lot of items made with flour – especially the breading on some of the fish entrees so make sure you are very clear with your server when you order.

I have a couple different favorite gluten free menu items at Fishbar. Here they are:

  • Oysters: They have different oysters of the day and sell them by the half dozen or dozen. I love oysters and it’s always a treat to start with these.

    Fishbar MB Gluten Free

Check to make sure the Bloody Mary is gluten free. At the time of this post I can’t recall if it is.

  • Lobster Tacos: Probably my favorite dish in the place. Make sure you order these with corn tortillas because their default tortilla is flour. I once accidentally bit into a flour tortilla one and it was not pretty. So always double check! Also make sure you order the lobster grilled and not fried.
  • Mahi Mahi - I like this with two sides – spinach and broccoli or one veggie and sweet potato fries
  • Shrimp and Scallops on a Skewer: Same sides as the above, but shrimp and scallops on a skewer as the main dish. The original dish has the skewer laced with bacon, but I don’t eat bacon so I get them like this.
  • Dessert: They serve Ice Cream from McConnell’s Ice Creamery here (a local ice cream shop in Manhattan Beach). In fact, the owner of Fishbar also owns McConnell’s. Fun Fact. They don’t really have any gluten free dessert items at Fishbar, but a scoop of vanilla ice cream with some chocolate sauce should do the trick.

The Chef Jessica at Fishbar is also really nice. I once asked if they could make a coconut crusted mahi mahi (their special that day) gluten free and she did! So awesome of her.

Fresh Brothers Gluten Free Pizza

Fresh Brothers Gluten Free Pizza

Fresh Brothers makes a killer gluten-free pizza. I eat pretty healthy, but like everyone I have my vices. One of them is Fresh Brothers Gluten Free pizza. I’m Italian, and I love pizza. So obviously going gluten-free was a big bummer in that department. From time to time I crave a piece of pizza and thankfully there are places here in LA that make a great gluten-free pizza. Fresh Brothers Pizza gluten free pizza is by far the best gluten-free pizza I’ve tried and they are located right here in Manhattan Beach where I live. Win!

Gluten-Free Restaurant Guide: Fresh Brothers

A typical cheat meal in our house: Fresh Brothers Gluten-Free Pizza and Chopped Veggie Salad

I heard Fresh Brothers had a gluten-free pizza but I didn’t know enough about it to seek it out. One day my pizza craving came on strong and we looked into getting delivery. Fresh Brothers has an iphone app and you can order your pizza directly through the app. And if you use the code “FRESHFAN” you get 10% off your entire order. This is a pretty good thing for a web geek like myself.

According to my husband, the gluten-free pizza definitely tastes like it is gluten-free. But it’s still good enough where we will split a medium gluten-free pizza and he won’t feel the need to get his own pizza filled with gluten gooey bread goodness. What a sweet guy!

Our typical dinner meal we order for delivery from Fresh Brothers is a medium gluten-free pizza with turkey sausage and peperoncini. It is yummy and looks like this:

Fresh Brothers Gluten Free Pizza

We also try and keep this cheat meal somewhat healthy by ordering a vegetable chopped garden salad with our order. They will chop up any salad you order and it is GOOD:

Fresh Brothers Chopped Vegetable Salad

We get our salads chopped with olive oil on the side. So good. And the price is pretty reasonable and they deliver. We don’t order out much but when we are feeling like a pizza, Fresh Brothers is not just an option for us. It is THE option.

I don’t think Fresh Brothers is nationwide yet but they do have locations all over Southern California. They have an entire gluten free menu and they also serve gluten-free buffalo wings and boneless bites. I haven’t tried them yet but when I do I will post an update with this information.

I am so happy Fresh Brothers has a gluten free pizza that tastes good and satisfies my pizza craving. Thank you, Fresh Brothers, for being so awesome!

Dogtown Coffee Gluten Free Menu Santa Monica

Dogtown Coffee Gluten Free Menu Santa Monica

Dogtown Coffee Sea Salted Caramel Iced Coffee

Dogtown Coffee Sea Salt Caramel Iced coffee.

I immediately liked Dogtown Coffee when I heard the name because I am a fan of Dogtown & Z Boys (from the Santa Monica / Venice old days) and surf culture in general. I came here to meet a friend for breakfast (and to work on our blogs – before they got rid of free WiFi) and I was so happy to see they were friendly to gluten-free customers and had a nice gluten-free menu. But I should have expected it – the coffee shop is located at the intersection of Main Street and Bay Street in Santa Monica. It’s a trendy area in town and being gluten-free is kind of all the rage right now.

Aside from plenty of gluten-free pastries like brownies, they have egg sliders that can be served on a gluten-free bun. They are tiny and perfectly sized and to be honest, it was one of the first times I had tried gluten-free bread and it was pretty damn good. I don’t think all gluten-free breads are this good. They have a good one! I had the egg sliders on gluten-free bread with egg whites, salsa, spinach, and mushroom. The salsa was really fresh, too, and had a bit of a spicy kick from fresh jalapeno!

Their coffee is great, too. I had two cups of coffee while I was there – one dark roast and one sea salt caramel iced coffee. They are known for their sea salted caramel iced coffee because they let the coffee soak in the sea salt caramel overnight. Knowing they were popular for this, I had to try it. It was a bit too sweet for my taste buds (gosh, never thought I’d be saying that) but I can see why people think it’s delicious.

This place is still pretty new and opened in summer of 2012 so I haven’t been able to find a website for them yet. Here’s a link to check them out on Yelp:

The Source Cafe Hermosa Beach Gluten Free Menu

The Source Hermosa BeachThe Source Cafe Hermosa Beach Gluten Free Menu

The Source Cafe is a cafe, juice bar, and coffee joint in Hermosa Beach. They serve fresh juice and smoothies and a variety of breakfast and lunch options. They are open from 7am-7pm everyday and located on Pier Ave in a spot that is usually not too crowded and you can always find a parking spot.

I am a big fan of their Banana Smoothie and Turmeric Tonic. They have plenty of elixirs, juices, smoothies, and tonics on their menu and I’ve enjoyed every one that I’ve tried so far. You can check out their entire list of smoothies by visiting the menu on their website here.

The Source Cafe also grows their own garden so they call the juices the “drinkable garden” and their food the “edible garden.” Pretty clever. Their Almond Balls and Raw Oatmeal are pretty good too. They also have a nice assortment of gluten-free baked goods like gluten-free banana chocolate chip bread, cookies, and brownies.

I like the vibe of The Source Cafe because it’s on Pier Ave in Hermosa but it is not in the busy section so it’s easier to find parking and hang out there. You can grab your morning green juice, read the paper, and then wash it down with a nice cup of organic coffee.

While The Source Cafe doesoffer a lot of gluten free options on their menu, not everything on their menu is gluten free. Some of their salads come with croutons so be careful and review the menu carefully and ask questions when ordering.
