Mmm…Red Robin gluten-free burger on a gluten-free bun.

Red Robin Gluten Free Menu

Red Robin is an extremely gluten friendly establishment. I was absolutely amazed by the Red Robin gluten free menu! They have an electronic menu that will take you through everything on the menu that is gluten-free or that could be made to be gluten-free. They only had one of these particular types of electronic menus at the establishment in Rockford, Illinois- it looked similar to an iPad but more durable. I was enjoying my time looking at my Red Robin gluten free options on this electronic menu when sadly the batteries in had died. I started to panic because I had not gotten very far through the menu and this was their only device. At this point I was unsure on how I would order anything at all. Then two amazing things happened. First the waitress began to tell me about all of the Red Robin gluten free menu items and how the kitchen makes sure that the food stays gluten free. Secondly, the waitress showed me Red Robin’s website on my smartphone. The great thing about their website is that it has the same menu application as the electronic device so I was able to use my smartphone to continue to look at the rest of the menu and choose my gluten free meal.

When I ordered my meal I was told that Red Robin offers either a lettuce wrap for their burgers or a gluten-free bun in place of the regular buns. I was definitely interested in trying the gluten-free bun so I went with the D.G.B Burger. It is a Black Angus burger on a gluten free bun with roasted garlic aioli, sea salt & pepper, oven roasted tomatoes, arugula lettuce and lemony oil dressing. I chose the gluten-free steak fries as my side and they came with a gluten-free garlic aioli dip. One word summed up my entire meal: DELICIOUS! Between the amazing food and the outstanding service, I have to say my local Red Robin (here in Rockford, Illinois) is doing an amazing job!

For those of you who have celiac or gluten sensitivity, Red Robin is the place to go. If it is your first time there you will also receive a loyalty rewards card with your meal. The card is used every time you dine there, you just register it online and you get rewarded with free meals. They even offer a free burger to you on your birthday! YUM!

Five Guys Gluten Free Menu

Five Guys Gluten Free MenuMmmmm…a juicy cheeseburger! I walk into Five Guys and immediately I see the consumer reviews posted on the walls. I’ve heard about Five Guys and their infamous burgers. Since I’ve learned I had Celiac, it had been years since I had a good burger. I’ve heard the staff at Five Guys has training in handling gluten-free requests. When I mentioned to the staff that I had to be gluten-free, they knew exactly what to do.  They flagged my order as an allergy with special instructions and no bun.

Five Guys is burger and fries place. Even though they do not have gluten-free buns, their burgers are gluten-free and they’re handmade, not from frozen burger patties. However, you do have the option of having a lettuce wrap instead of a bun. I prefer my cheeseburger with some grilled mushrooms without the lettuce wrap. It gets a little messy eating with your hands. So, I eat my burger with a fork and knife.

Five Guys French fries are hand cut and fried in a dedicated fryer. They’re very tasty and remind me of Boardwalk Fries from my times at Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. I like mixing my burger and fries with some ketchup and mayonnaise, eating it like a meal.  The toppings are gluten-free, including the A1 Steak Sauce and barbecue sauce. However, the malt vinegar is NOT gluten-free. If you’re not in the mood for burgers, Five Guys also serve hot dogs, which are also gluten-free (must be without the bun).

Here are some tips for ordering at Five Guys:

  • Make sure you let the staff know you are gluten-free
  • Order your burger without the bun. You can request a lettuce wrap if you’d like
  • French fries are made in a dedicated fryer
  • Toppings are gluten-free except for malt vinegar

So, if you’re on the go and looking for some juicy goodness, Five Guys is the place to satisfy that craving with a juicy, flavorful burger.  And, don’t forget the yummy fries!

In N Out Gluten Free Menu

In N Out Gluten Free MenuIn N Out Burger is one of those places that you wonder if you can eat anything gluten free. Well, the good thing is most of their ingredients (minus the bun) are naturally gluten free.

If you are looking for a gluten free meal at In N Out, we suggest ordering the following:

-A Hamburger, Cheeseburger, or Double Double made Protein Style. This is where they wrap the burger in lettuce instead of using a bun. Order ketchup and mustard instead of the spread. The spread seems to be a Thousand Island style sauce and we’ve heard mixed reports on whether or not it is gluten free. Many people have reported no reaction and some have so proceed with caution. I always order my burger from In N Out protein style with ketchup and mustard instead of spread and it tastes great!

-Fries. The In N Out fries are gluten free because they don’t fry anything else there so there isn’t a high risk of cross contamination like you might have at other restaurants.

-Shakes: All In N Out Shakes are gluten free. You can choose from vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. Go on, indulge yourself. Order a neopolitan shake which mixes vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry together for a real yummy treat.

We really like In N Out for gluten free dining. However, even though In N Out gluten free menu provides you with a lot of options there is still a risk for cross contamination because of their buns and how often they are being prepared. You may also risk cross contamination with their spatulas in the kitchen. If you ask your server to separate your burger to help avoid cross contamination they may be willing to do that. It’s worth a try.

Overall we find In N Out’s gluten free menu to be a good, relatively inexpensive meal when you’re on a road trip or looking for a quick bite to eat.
